Unravelling

Described by award winning composer Grayson Gilmour as “A detailed and considered composition” and “an engaging listen”, Unravelling tells it’s story through a unique combination of Piano, Synth, Cavaquinho, Drums and experimental production methods. Feel time and space unravel as the the tempo decends and the peice becomes progressively darker and more chaotic.

Drums: Millie Dalton
Produced, mixed and mastered by Tim Banks
Fountain of Youth

Fountain of Youth is a short sweet harp composition recorded with Michelle Velvin of the Wellington Symphony Orchestra, bolstered by tight drums, textural synths and smooth bass. Invoking feelings of nostalgia and wonder, it soundtracks the story of a travellers journey to the fabled Fountain of Youth.

You Can’t Have This

You Can’t Have This is an experimental and hauntological sound art peice made with the express purpose of rejecting musical norms. “The end result is a sonically rich, temporally ambiguous composition that feels hauntingly familiar at times. Despite actively rejecting the influence of the conventional sounds and tropes. Ironically that very influence haunts my work, although one could say actively rejecting influence is a form of influence itself.”
Dream Induction

Dream Induction is electronic/psychedelic rock fusion peice that invokes themes of anti-establishment and anti-consumerism, inspired by the privacy controversies of Meta and their announcement of Metaverse. Throughout I use sound design to illistrate the idea of a technologically advanced virtual reality system scanning your brain in order to make the simulation appear increasingly more realistic as the song transitions from fully electronic into classic Pink Floyd inspired Rock.

The Space Between (Featuring Airu Matsuda)
The Space Between is a work done in collaboration with Airu Matsuda of the Wellington dance organisation: Footnote. The music was composed by me, with the movement choreographed and performed by Airu. Together we fleshed out his movement concept of exploring the tension leading up to transfers of energy, and frictionless movements within ones body. While I hadn’t had much experience in the contemplative, evolving, and ambient styles of music Airu likes moving to, it was a unique experiment for me and I’m proud of the result.
Initialising
Initialising was my entry to the 2024 Adam Audio Soundtrack Competition. The task was producing a 30 second soundtrack promted by this image. My interpretation of the image is a humanoid alien having landed on a cold part of earth, analysing and adapting to ther new surroundings using their superior technology. The peice contains effected bowed guitar performed by Murphy Bruning.

Dolby Digital Presents: Escape (Rescored)
This is my take on the soundtrack for the 2017 Dolby Digital short film “Escape.” I felt the subject matter of this film lent itself well to my multifaceted musical stylings.

Cosmic Piracy

Cosmic Piracy is a short midi composition I produced in my first year of my degree. I imagined this as the intro music for a streaming show about space pirates with jaunty rhythms, atmospheric synths, dramatic strings, and an electric lute to finish off strong.
